A Digital signature is a physical signature in an electronic format. Digital signature is used in India for a secured online transactions such as Online Income Tax Filing , LLP Registration , Filing Annual Return , e-tenders etc., Digital signature track the identity of the sender of an electronic document in the Internet. There are three types of Digital signatures Class I , Class II and Class III.
Class I – This type of digital signature is used for secure email communication.

Class III Digital signature provides highest security and assurance for E-Auctions and E-Tendering.
Digital signature Certificate are stored in a USB flash Drive called E-token . USB token is connected to the computer to electronically sign a document.
Once the Digital Signature Expires it must be renewed again.

For all those who have a liability to register themselves, if fails to do the same than under section 75A of the finance act 1994 penalty for the failure of an assessed to get himself registered was fixed at Rs. 500/- as a onetime payment but subsequently this section was deleted by the virtue of the finance act 2004 and now the general penalty that is applicable is Rs. 1000/- as per section 77 of Finance act.
